Guided tour of Arcos de la Frontera
Where
you are standing now
| You are now standing in Cabildo Square and looking at St. Mary's church. Perhaps the best known sight for visitors to Arcos de la Frontera, St. Mary's is a mixture of many different architectural styles, built as it was over six centuries. Look at the impressive, though unfinished neo-classical bell tower - the old one fell in the earthquake of 1755 (famous for destroying Lisbon). The replacement was intended to be the tallest in Andalucia after Seville's, but the money ran out! If it's open, go up the tower. From there you'll get a nice view of the castle. If you want to go inside the church now click here. Or why not click on the image to enlarge it - and hear the church bell ring. |
