In 1686 this street became known as Callejón de las Monjas, or Nuns' Street, and it has changed little over the years. The buttresses you see are at the back of St. Mary's church and you can learn more about those, as well as the Renaissance façade in the middle right of the photo, by taking our online Guided Tour. In 1892 the newspaper for Arcos de la Frontera, 'El Arcobricense', was founded at number 11. In 1962 two Roman columns were discovered at the base of the church wall and were incorporated into nearby streets. Hover your mouse over the scene to see how it looks today!

These photographs were taken by Víctor Marín in the 1940s and 1950s.
