The people of Arcos de la Frontera

José | Emilio | Isabel | Cristobal and Cristobal | Sonia

JoséThe Recent Arrival.
José Cuetos, born 1968.

How long have you lived in Arcos de la Frontera?
A matter of months. I am originally from Bilbao in northern Spain and have recently moved here from London.

What are your earliest memories of the town?

I first came here several years ago and when I saw Arcos de la Frontera from the distance I thought, 'this looks special'. It was a very hot day in late September.

How has Arcos de la Frontera changed?
I have noticed that just recently many people have come to live in Arcos de la Frontera from outside. It's a positive thing because they are doing up the lovely old houses.

What changes would you like to see in future?
I'd like to see the cars being taken out of the Old Quarter, with more buses to transport people around instead.

What does it mean to be 'arcense'*?
You have to be born here to know!

What do you like about Arcos de la Frontera?
I like living in an historic place. I also like the quietness, the sense of community and that all the services are close at hand.

How would you sum up Arcos de la Frontera?
Arcos de la Frontera is a place that gives you a sense of history. It's quiet and friendly.

What is your favourite time of year here, and why?
Spring, that is to say March and April - when all the flowers come out in the fields. At this time of the year the light is very clear and the fields are a lovely green.

Where do you like going outside of Arcos de la Frontera?
The Sierra de Grazalema for its beautiful views and villages. All the area between Cádiz and Tarifa, especially the beach at Bolonia.
