The people of Arcos de la Frontera

José | Emilio | Isabel | Cristobal and Cristobal | Sonia

SoniaThe Hotel Owner.
Emilio Ramirez Veas, born 1943.

How long have you lived in Arcos de la Frontera?
All my life, though I have lived outside Arcos de la Frontera too.

What are your earliest memories of the town?

I can remember how, when I was just a kid, there used to be more of a village feel to the place. I think it was more welcoming and more sincere. I can also remember when it snowed in February 1954 - it hasn't snowed since!

How has Arcos de la Frontera changed?
It has lost some of its essence in favour of modernity. Some traditions have been lost too.

What changes would you like to see in future?
I'd like to see a broad political consensus on what changes should be made and then to
see those changes put in place.

What does it mean to be 'arcense'?
To feel Andalucian and, well, unique in a way.

What do you like about Arcos de la Frontera?
I like the way of life, the warm relationships I have with the people here and I like the surrounding countryside.

How would you sum up Arcos de la Frontera?
Aiming for the stars but never quite reaching them!

What is your favourite time of year here, and why?
Spring and Autumn, when the climate's just right.

Where do you like going outside of Arcos de la Frontera?
Any country where its people are genuine.
