María Millar, born 1968.
How
long have you lived in Arcos de la Frontera?
I was born in Arcos de la Frontera but have only been here permanently
for the last 3 years. I lived in the USA for 11 years. All my family
are from Arcos de la Frontera and still live here.
What are your earliest memories of the town?
The steep, narrow streets and the warmth of the people.
How has Arcos de la Frontera changed?
It's a modern town these days. It has grown a lot and there's much
more traffic than there used to be. I remember when it was quieter.
What
changes would you like to see in future?
Better jobs and more opportunity in general for younger people.
At the moment they have to leave the town to fulfil their
dreams.
What does it mean to be 'arcense'?
To feel that you are from here and nowhere else!
What
do you like about Arcos de la Frontera?
It's a very safe town. My family is
here of course. I think otherwise I'd prefer to live in Jerez or
Málaga, where there's more going on.
How would you sum up Arcos de la Frontera?
Relaxed,
welcoming and safe.
What is your favourite time of year here, and why?
I
like many
times of the year here. Spring and Autumn are nice because it's
neither hot nor cold. The celebrations here in Easter Week, in September
and at Christmas
are a joy.
Where do you like going outside of Arcos de la Frontera?
Jerez for shopping and for going out at night. El Puerto de Santa
María for its beach.
